Preparing for Marriage

Couples preparing for marriage will need to complete the following:

A Marriage Coaching Seminar called "Growing Together": This highly regarded and helpful one-day course helps couples to learn about themselves and their partners and about effective ways of communicating, handling conflict, coping with change and growing together in marriage. It is conducted by the Anglican Counselling Centre and meets on a Saturday. The course costs $187 per couple. For bookings and more information contact Anglicare (ph 9895 8054), or check on-line at: www.anglicare.org.au/education or email them at < This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A ‘Christianity Explained’ course: Choosing to be married at St. John’s indicates that you are willing to explore what the Christian faith offers to life and marriage. St John’s conducts a free course for engaged couples to explain what Christians believe and how your relationship with God affects your marriage.

Attend Sunday Church services regularly: We ask you to meet with other members of our church family in Sunday services (preferably the 7.00pm evening service) between the date of your wedding application and your wedding. This gives you the chance to get to know the minister who will marry you, and the style of service he conducts. It will also allow you to understand more of how the greatest love of all - God’s love – works in the world, and can work for you.

Meet with the Minister: The minister who will take your wedding will map out a wedding preparation timetable with you at his first meeting. We will do our very best to make sure that you are completely prepared when your wedding day comes around.

As you can see, couples will need to plan well ahead to benefit from a wedding at St. John’s. It is wise to book ahead at least 12 months in advance. In normal circumstances, we do not accept bookings under three months.
